Stop Trying to Lose Weight: How are you wording your goals?
Earlier this week, while reading the Fat Loss Quickie Motivation Report, this phrase on page 88 jumped out at me:
“Success Tip#29: Stop Trying to Lose Weight!”
What!?! That didn’t make sense.
But when I read further, I understood.
Scott’s point is that we don’t really want to “lose weight” or in my case “lose 100+ pounds”. What we want is something very specific – a specific weight, a specific size, to be able to take an airplane without asking for an extension for the seatbelt, whatever
By wording our weight loss goals in terms of the RESULTS we want with a specific timeline our brains are able to visualize those results and work towards them.
So What Results do you want?
For me, by Dec 2010, I want to be a size 14/16 (I’m a 28 now).
I want to have clothes that fit well and look good.
I want my husband to find me attractive
.
I want to be able to play games and sports with my kids with energy and enthusiasm.
And yes, I want to be able to travel without having to ask for a seatbelt extension
I have 52 weeks for my timeline. In April I’m speaking at a conference, and I’d love to show up slimmer than last year (and in new clothes). I sat down last night and mapped that out. To get there what does that mean, what milestones do I need to hit. I’ve got it all out on a calendar now.
So, have you started visualizing what Results you want? How will your life be different if you were healthier, fitter, and slimmer?
Let’s make that vision true this year – for both of us! It is possible, and think how amazing we’ll feel
Let’s do this!

Resolution versus Goals
Happy New Years! 2010 is going to be an amazing year. A year of breaking free and transformation.
For the last few weeks I’ve really been working on looking at where I’m at and where I want to be. Obviously here, I’ve been working on my health and fitness goals for 2010, but I’ve also been doing this in other areas of my life.
One of the things that I’m really wanting to make sure of is that I am making GOALS – actionable, measurable goals. Not “Resolutions”.
Why?
Because today is the day that so many people “say” they want to lose weight, that they want to improve their health, they want to get fit. But they don’t. I know. I’ve been there more times than I can count.
Over the last 15 years I’ve joined gyms, paid gym memberships for months and not done anything serious about it. I’ve made resolutions, wished, thought about it, dreamed about it, even take a little action here and there.
This year is different. This year I’ve given myself a solid goal with a timeline, but more than that I’m breaking it down into action steps.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been looking at mind-set materials, at goal setting, and information on why new year’s resolutions fail for most people. This year is different. I want this year to be different, so I’m going to make this year different.
How about you?
